Grouse

Another miniature painting!!!!  2 1/4" x 3 1/2"  Acrylic.  The picture is lighter than the image.  Having problems getting good values with the camera.  MMMMM?  Anyway, here is one of my miniatures.

Jim, another beauty, and the frame you chose for this one feels just perfect.

Hi Jim,

This is absolutely incredible! I can't believe you can paint details like this in a miniature painting. That is a real testament to your skill as an artist.

Great stuff.

He's beautiful Jim! Let me bore you with a funny story - When we lived in NH, the "live free or die" state, the birds would eat the berries in your yard every spring. After a few weeks, the berries would start to ferment, and we had birds flying into our windows, with erratic flight patterns, every afternoon - I mean we'd find 2 or 3 a day with broken necks next to our foundation. We tried putting foil and other stuff up, but they still kept flying into the windows. One day, there was this huge dead bird at our front door. It wasn't a turkey, or anything we'd ever seen, but it was about that size. Our neighbor's dad, who we knew never ate anything he didn't hunt and skin himself, came over. His exact words were "At's a ruffled grouse! 'Em are good eatin' birds! Mind if I cook 'im up?" We asked him to PLEASE take the dead bird away and enjoy himself. He later gave us reports on what the animal had just eaten, how tender his meat was, etc. ....Only in NH!.... Now every time I see a grouse, I think of him!

A beautiful painting. We have lots of grouse here in the highlands and it is very common for one to wander into our garden and peer into our pond. I really like the way you have captured the light behind the bird. Hard to imagine how small this work of fine art is. Thank you for sharing.

Caroline-
Thanks for the post! I should had put a pennie next to the painting show to show the size. The painting that is below is very lose to the right size of the Grouse.

Beautiful light in this one Jim! I must say I really love the way you painted the log! Those spots of sun playing against the blue-gray shadows really adds a sense of volume to it.
